Nestled on a desirable residential block in Eureka Valley, just above the Castro and next to Dolores Heights, this spectacular property offers a rare opportunity to own two extensively remodeled homes on one lot.

The main home features two bedrooms and two full baths, with an open-plan kitchen, dining room, and living room that’s an entertainer’s dream. This level also features a half bath and second living room or possible bedroom, complete with an original fireplace. Downstairs is the spacious primary suite with tall windows, unbeatable closets, and a peaceful full bath. Both levels have direct access to the central courtyard, an ideal space for entertaining, grilling, sitting around a cozy fire, or gardening.

Cross the courtyard to reach the cottage, a lovely two-bedroom house with an office and its own laundry hookups. The back cottage also offers the benefit of an open entertaining area, with a kitchen to rival that of the main house, and a front porch made for enjoying the morning’s first cup of coffee. Well-placed windows flood the building with natural light and showcase tree-framed views that give the impression of being far from the heart of a city. On the main level is the living room, kitchen, full bath, and first bedroom. Upstairs is its own comfortable, private retreat, with another bedroom and the office.

This property also features a large garage with interior access, and independent access to the rear cottage.

Perfectly situated, 4440 20th Street is only a few blocks from Kite Hill, Seward Mini Park, and Eureka Valley Dog Run, to say nothing of its close proximity to the vibrant Castro District, sunny Dolores Park, and Noe Valley’s 24th Street corridor.

Neighborhood Gallery

4440 20th Street

Eureka Valley and Dolores Heights, which includes the world-renowned Castro district, have a wonderfully rich history as the epicenter of the gay rights movement. Today, the neighborhood is undergoing another transition as the long-standing gay community welcomes young families to the increasingly diverse neighborhood. On the eastern end, coveted Liberty Hill offers tremendous views and one-of-a-kind residences.

Nestled in a quiet valley surrounded by oak-studded rolling hills, Castro Valley enjoys a rural atmosphere in the midst of urban Alameda County. With the San Leandro Hills extending along its northeastern edge, Castro Valley boasts such natural amenities as an extensively developed park system, a swimming lagoon, and an 18-hole golf course. Lake Chabot Regional Park offers boating, hiking, and an annual spring fishing derby.

This vibrant community of a little more than 60,000 residents hosts an annual fall festival and car show, a chili cook-off, and a rodeo parade. Seasonal farmers' markets sell fresh produce from the nearby Central Valley. Youth activities include softball, baseball, soccer, and basketball leagues, as well as a track club. Historic Rowell Ranch Rodeo holds rodeo events and chooses a Rodeo Queen each year. Castro Valley’s Adobe Art Gallery displays group art exhibits, student exhibits, and children's and senior art.

Castro Valley homes range from 10-acre properties with plenty of room for horses to custom-built homes with views of the surrounding hills and three-bedroom, single-family homes close to schools and shopping.
